I have lead worship since about 1990. As a Camp Director I’ve been able to not only lead worship for chapel services (and sing a lot of fun, crazy Sunday school songs) but also for staff devotion times and more. I’ve also had the opportunity to lead worship at many youth and young adult events over the years. Prior to one of those events for The Salvation Army, called Youth Councils in the early 2000’s, I wrote a song called “Revolution of Love”.
My song writing process can really vary but typically starts with me just feeling like I’ve got something to say (or, rather, I feel like God wants to say something through me) and I start playing chords on the guitar or piano and let things happen pretty organically. Sometimes a chorus will pop into my head, or maybe I’ll just think about a word or phrase, there might be something topically that I want to write about or, there may be something in my past, good, bad or ugly, that pushes in…
Revolution of Love begins as a song about God’s deep love, faithfulness and patience in my life and a reminder that the best way for us to change the world, in positive ways, is to live our lives in a way that God’s love can be seen plainly. We are called, according to 2 Corinthians 5:20, to be “…Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.” If the world cannot see the love of God, revealed in Christ, through our actions, words and attitudes, we aren’t doing a great job being His ambassadors.
This song is a cry from me to God to take my weaknesses and, through His love, change me, fill me, conform me to His will, and light a fire inside me so I can be a force of love, in His name, to the world.
The chorus is meant to inspire myself and others to go into the world and create revolution in the lives of our friends, family and acquaintances with the power of God’s love.

I have been ashamed, of the glory of the cross
I have turned away, when I should have stood and fought
My sins of compromise have put my Lord to shame
My shame and guilt it burdens me, and yet I sin again
But your love is greater than my greatest need
Send your holy fire to set me free
CHORUS
It’s a revolution of love it’s a revolution of the Spirit
It’s a revolution of love and the people need to hear it
It’s a revolution of love and I will stand and be counted
It’s a revolution of love and God’s love is the solution
Lord move in my heart and bend me to Your will
Send your holy fire to cleanse and to fill
Fill me with your power Lord, I want to do what’s right
With Jesus beside me I’ll bravely stand and fight
CHORUS
