So… I haven’t written a post for over a year and a half, haha. I thought I would start off 2022 with a little more discipline with that. So I’ll be trying to post at least once a week and I thought I would start by writing a little bit about some of the songs I’ve written. A little backstory to the highlighted song.
This week I wanted to write a little bit about one of the I.C.U. (In Christ United, the Christian rock band I was in) songs that I wrote back in the late 80’s/early 90’s. The lyrics are below for you to read along with a link to find and listen to the song.
The warning in Revelation Chapter 3 to the Church of Laodicea, “15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” has always been very sobering to me. There are different ways that people have interpreted this warning over the years, but to me it says, “be all in, or all out” – know where you stand. The worst place to be is thinking that you’re serving and pleasing God when you are doing things for the wrong reasons. (in Matthew 7 Jesus talks of sending people away at the judgment even though they have done works in His name).
Revelation Chapter 3 goes on to say “19 Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. 20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” Know where you stand. Know where your heart is. Are you serving God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength? I’m not perfect and I know I never will be in this life. I know I have failed God many times in many ways – probably every day of my life. But I also know that I truly want to glorify Him with my life. Am I as good as I possibly could be – nah… I could do better. Am I lukewarm? I probably have been and may be again in the future. What can I do about that? Be honest with myself and with God. “be earnest and repent”. My lukewarm days have gotten less over the years as I’ve learned to trust and honor God better but I will be so glad to some day be in His presence so my failures will cease and I will be able to worship him as never before.

LUKEWARM
Living life in turmoil with yourself.
Don’t you know that your pulling yourself apart.
Living your life in shades of grey,
and hoping the guilt will go away.
Exercising, your freedom of choice,
While you walk away from the promised land.
—————
CHORUS
You can’t be lukewarm
You’ve got to weather through the storms,
of life you’ve got to choose a side.
Be either hot or cold
The lord will judge all me
the Bible says when He comes again
Don’t be a fool or hell awaits
Give your life to Him.
—————-
Can’t you see the game that you’re playing.
The devil’s got you in the palm of his hand.
You make people think that you’re a believer,
but then you change when their back is turned.
But you know that God can see right through you,
and on the judgemente day the charge will be lukewarm
(you’ve been warned)
He’ll say depart into the lake of fire,
you who lived your life as a liar
Liar!
————–
CHORUS
Hi Jeff:
Happy that you’re looking at your music from previous days. It’ll be a good reminder for your staff from years past. As well as for the new ones.
Love you Mucho!
