COVID-19 Life
It’s been awhile since I posted. It’s been a weird month in the US and around the world. Many people have died and I find it difficult to process this as, fortunately, I have so far been relatively unaffected by tragedy. Not that I don’t care about the hundreds of thousands of deaths – I just see the number and my brain fogs up because I don’t even know what to do with it – or about it. I hope that you are praying along with me for a vaccine to be developed quickly so we can start healing as a nation and a world.
It has been awesome to see some good things happening amidst the bad. Families are spending much more time together and, frequently out of desperation, finding new ways to engage with each other to have fun. Churches and others and getting creative online – friends are connecting on Google Hangouts and Zoom – and we are all learning how important and significant some of the simple things are that we have taken for granted. Like being able to shake someones hand when you see them (or… give them a hug!). Taking a walk in the woods or along the beach – without having to check online to see what’s opened or closed. Going to the store without worrying about what you might contract while you are picking up life’s necessities. And, I don’t know about you, but I will be very excited to take my wife to a nice restaurant when we are once again able to (Cheesecake Factory anyone?).
One upside for me is that I have been trying to work on some new music. It has been a struggle for me to find time to be creative (and to be techie… which I’m not so great at). Without spending a ton of money to go into a studio I have been continually learning how to record at home. And, while I’ve been at it for several years, the programs and processes continue to change at a rate that I struggle to keep up with. The challenge being that I normally only work on the programs seasonally for a few hours at a time – and my learning curve can go backward. Anyway… with the camp I work at virtually empty my hours are pretty normal (not always the case at camp) and I am finding time to learn new programs and processes. Hopefully, by the end of summer, I will have some new songs to post on the website. In a future post I’ll talk a bit about what my home “studio” consists of.
Meanwhile… I hope that you are safe, that your family is safe, and that you are doing as well as possible through this crisis. Stay safe – and be a blessing!
